Comfort Inn and Comfort Suites have a brand pet policy, but each hotel fills in the details. Choice Hotels says Comfort welcomes up to two pets, with a maximum weight per pet and a nightly fee for each pet, that guests with large dogs need approval before arrival, that pets are not allowed on beds and that common areas are off-limits. In the 37 US Choice hotels we checked across Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn, Econo Lodge, Clarion and Rodeway Inn, 21 accepted pets and 16 did not. Most that did charged USD 20 to USD 30 per pet per night, with some charging per stay.
This guide is built from Choice Hotels' own Comfort pet policy page and the pet policy on each hotel's page at choicehotels.com, read in October 2026, using an even sample of US hotels taken from Choice's own hotel list. Pet rules belong to each hotel, so check the page for the exact hotel or call before you travel.

The official Comfort pet policy
Choice Hotels' Comfort pet policy page sets out the brand rules for Comfort Inn and Comfort Suites:
- Up to two pets per room.
- A maximum weight per pet, set by each hotel.
- A nightly fee for each pet.
- Guests with large dogs must get approval before arrival.
- Breed and pet restrictions may apply.
- Pets are not allowed on beds.
- The hotel's common areas are off-limits to pets.
Choice adds that pet policies vary by hotel and encourages guests to check the policy at their destination hotel before booking. That last line matters, because the hotel pages show a wide range.
Comfort Inn fees and limits in practice
Most Comfort Inn hotels we checked followed the brand outline with their own numbers. Comfort Inn Indianapolis charges USD 25 per night per pet, allows two pets of up to 35 pounds each and says a USD 250 security deposit may be required. Comfort Inn Kenosha in Wisconsin takes dogs only, two per room up to 75 pounds, for USD 25 per night per pet. Comfort Inn Ames in Iowa takes dogs only, up to 50 pounds, for USD 20 per night per pet. Comfort Inn Hebron in Indiana takes one dog up to 30 pounds for USD 30 per night and no cats.
A few charge per stay instead. Comfort Inn Danbury in Connecticut takes dogs only for USD 50 per pet per stay, and Comfort Inn Grand Junction in Colorado takes up to three dogs in designated rooms for USD 40 per pet per stay. Two of the nine Comfort Inn hotels we checked, in Mount Airy, North Carolina and Pittsburgh, took no pets at all.
Comfort Suites
Comfort Suites hotels in our sample were less pet-friendly. Four of the five did not accept pets: Norwich, Connecticut; South Point, Ohio; Mattoon, Illinois; and Austin, Texas. The one that did, Comfort Suites Deer Park near Houston, charges USD 50 per pet per night with a 20 pound limit, which rules out most dogs. If you prefer a Comfort Suites, check carefully before booking with a pet.
Quality Inn pet policy
Quality Inn hotels varied too. Quality Inn Lone Pine in California charges USD 20 per night per pet, up to 55 pounds, two per room. Quality Inn Salisbury in Maryland charges USD 20 per pet per night, takes a USD 100 refundable deposit and sets a 50 pound limit. Quality Inn Summersville in West Virginia accepts all pets up to 25 pounds for USD 20 per pet per night. Quality Inn Elizabeth City in North Carolina charges USD 50 for the first night and USD 25 for each night after. Three of the nine Quality Inn hotels we checked, in Meriden, Connecticut, Jacksonville, Florida and Omaha, Nebraska, did not accept pets.
Sleep Inn, Econo Lodge, Clarion and Rodeway
Sleep Inn Gallup in New Mexico charges USD 25 per pet per night for up to two pets. Sleep Inn Middlesboro in Kentucky charges USD 30 per night up to a USD 150 maximum per stay, for one dog under 50 pounds. Econo Lodge Santee in South Carolina charges just USD 10 per pet per night for pets of 20 pounds or less, or USD 25 for heavier pets. Econo Lodge Jasper in Alabama allows one pet up to 30 pounds for USD 30 per night. Clarion North Haven in Connecticut charges USD 25 per pet per night up to 50 pounds, and Rodeway Inn Willington in Connecticut charges USD 20 per pet per night up to 40 pounds. Each of these brands also had hotels in our sample that took no pets.
Large dogs at Choice hotels
The Comfort policy says guests with large dogs must get approval before arrival, and the hotel pages show why. Weight limits in our sample ranged from 20 pounds at Comfort Suites Deer Park to 75 pounds at Comfort Inn Kenosha, with most hotels between 30 and 55 pounds. If your dog is over about 50 pounds, call ahead, explain the dog's size and get approval noted on your booking.
Dogs only at many Choice hotels
Several hotels we checked said dogs only, including Comfort Inn Danbury, Grand Junction, Port Orchard, Ames and Kenosha, and Quality Inn Clinton in Arkansas. Comfort Inn Grand Junction and Comfort Inn Hebron say no cats in so many words. If you travel with a cat, look for a hotel whose policy says pets or all pets rather than dogs only, and call to confirm.
Deposits and damage
Some Choice hotels take a deposit on top of the fee. Quality Inn Salisbury and Quality Inn Clinton require a USD 100 refundable deposit, and Comfort Inn Indianapolis says a USD 250 security deposit may be required. Quality Inn Elizabeth City notes that any damage caused by pets will result in extra charges. A deposit is usually refunded after the room is checked; the nightly fee is not.
What "no pets on beds" means for you
The Comfort policy says pets are not allowed on beds. That is a house rule, not a suggestion, and it is one of the easiest ways to end up with a cleaning charge. Bring your pet's own bed or a blanket for the floor, and if your dog is used to sleeping with you, consider a crate for the night so the rule is easy to keep. Pet hair on the bedding can be treated as extra cleaning, and at hotels with a deposit it may come out of that deposit. Packing a lint roller and doing a quick sweep of the furniture before you check out costs nothing and avoids a dispute at the desk.
Questions to ask the hotel
- Is the fee per pet, per night, or once per stay?
- What is your weight limit, and do you need to approve my dog in advance?
- Do you accept cats, or dogs only?
- Is there a deposit, and when is it refunded?
- Are pets limited to certain rooms, and is one free on my dates?
- Can my pet stay in the room alone if crated?
A sample trip: four nights with two small dogs
Say you are visiting family for four nights with two 25 pound dogs. At Quality Inn Summersville, both dogs fit the 25 pound limit and the fee is USD 20 per pet per night, so USD 160 for the stay. At Comfort Inn Indianapolis, both fit the 35 pound limit at USD 25 per pet per night, so USD 200, and you may be asked for a USD 250 deposit as well. At Comfort Inn Danbury, which charges USD 50 per pet per stay, the total would be USD 100. At Comfort Suites Deer Park, the dogs would be over the 20 pound limit. Small differences in the policy text can change the bill by more than the room rate, so read it before you book.
How to check a Choice hotel's pet policy
- Open the hotel's page on choicehotels.com.
- Find the Pets entry, which says Pets Allowed yes or no, and read the policy text under it.
- Note whether the fee is per night or per stay, per pet or per room, and whether a deposit applies.
- Call the hotel for approval if you have a large dog, a cat or more than one pet.
- Tell the front desk about your pet at check-in.
Our guide on how to find pet-friendly hotels covers the same checks for other chains.
Service animals at Choice hotels
Every Choice hotel page we checked said service animals are permitted without charge, including the hotels that do not accept pets. Under the ADA service animal rules, hotel staff may only ask whether the dog is required because of a disability and what task it is trained to do. Emotional support animals are not service animals under the ADA, so a Choice hotel can treat one as a pet or refuse it if the hotel takes no pets. Our guide to service dog hotel rights explains more.
Choice hotels on a road trip
Comfort Inn, Quality Inn and Econo Lodge are common at highway exits, which makes them useful for single nights on a long drive with a dog. A nightly fee of USD 10 to USD 30 per pet is manageable for one or two nights, but with so many hotels refusing pets, plan your stops ahead. Our road trip with a dog guide covers planning, and hotels with no pet fee lists chains that charge nothing.
Tips for a smooth Choice hotel stay with a pet
- Keep your pet off the beds, as the Comfort policy requires; bring your pet's own bed.
- Keep your dog out of the lobby, breakfast area and pool.
- Ask whether pets can be left alone in the room, and crate them if so.
- Get large-dog approval in writing before you arrive.
- Budget for a refundable deposit at some hotels.
Common mistakes with Choice hotel pet stays
- Assuming every Comfort Inn or Quality Inn takes pets.
- Missing that the fee is per pet, per night.
- Arriving with a large dog without prior approval.
- Bringing a cat to a dogs only hotel.
- Letting a dog on the bed and paying for extra cleaning.
How Comfort Inn compares with other chains
Comfort Inn's per-night, per-pet fee is typical of budget brands, similar to the Wyndham brands in our Wyndham pet policy guide. For long stays, a chain with a capped or per-stay fee will usually cost less.
Before you book
Choice Hotels gives Comfort a clear brand outline, two pets, a weight limit, a nightly fee, no pets on beds and no pets in common areas, but every hotel writes its own numbers into that outline, and many hotels across the Choice brands do not take pets at all. In our sample, Comfort Inn and Quality Inn were the most likely to accept pets, and Comfort Suites the least. Read the Pets entry on the hotel page, check whether the fee is per night or per stay, call for approval if your dog is large, and keep your pet off the bed once you are in the room. A few minutes of checking before you book is the difference between a smooth night and a refusal at the front desk after a long drive.
