Fairmont has no single pet policy. Each Fairmont hotel publishes its own rules in the Pet Policy section of its guest services page, and they vary a lot. Many Fairmont hotels accept dogs of any size, which is rare for a luxury brand. Fees range from nothing at all, at The Plaza in New York and Fairmont Empress in Victoria, to a one-time fee of USD 50 to USD 150 per pet, to a nightly fee of about 35 to 75 dollars. Canadian hotels price in Canadian dollars. A few Fairmonts set weight limits of 20 to 40 pounds, and several famous ones also keep a resident hotel dog, the Fairmont Canine Ambassador.
This guide is built from the guest services pages of Fairmont hotels on fairmont.com, read in October 2026. We checked the pet policy of more than 30 Fairmont hotels in the US and Canada, plus a few elsewhere. Rules change, so read the page for your hotel, or call, before you book.

Fairmont hotels that take dogs of any size
For owners of big dogs, Fairmont is one of the most welcoming luxury brands. Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston says pets of all sizes are welcome for a one-time fee of USD 50 per pet, with a maximum of two. Fairmont Dallas says there are no weight limitations, for USD 100 per pet per stay. Fairmont Pittsburgh welcomes pets of all sizes for USD 60 per night. Fairmont Washington DC in Georgetown welcomes pets of all sizes as long as they are leashed. The Plaza in New York accepts dogs of all sizes at no additional cost, up to two per room. In Canada, Fairmont Vancouver Airport takes pets of all sizes, and Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City says all dogs are welcome.
Fairmont hotels with weight limits
Not every Fairmont is open to big dogs. Fairmont Austin accepts up to two pets weighing up to 25 pounds. Fairmont New Orleans accepts pets up to 25 pounds. Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park accepts dogs and cats under 40 pounds. Fairmont Royal York in Toronto accepts up to two small pets. Fairmont Kea Lani on Maui accepts dogs of 20 pounds or less. Outside North America, Fairmont Mayakoba in Mexico and the Hamilton Princess in Bermuda accept pets up to 25 pounds.
One-time fees versus nightly fees
Fairmont hotels split into two camps on pricing, and it matters a lot for longer stays.
One fee per stay or per pet: Copley Plaza charges USD 50 per pet, Fairmont Austin USD 100, Fairmont Dallas USD 100 per pet, Fairmont San Francisco USD 100 per pet, Fairmont Heritage Place at Ghirardelli Square USD 150 per pet, Fairmont New Orleans USD 150, Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn USD 150 and Fairmont Olympic in Seattle a USD 75 cleaning fee. In Canada, Fairmont Royal York charges 60 dollars per pet per stay and Fairmont Chateau Laurier in Ottawa 60 dollars per room per stay.
A fee per night: Fairmont Pittsburgh charges USD 60 per night, Fairmont Orchid on the Big Island USD 75 per pet per night, and Fairmont Kea Lani USD 40 per day. Most of the Canadian resort and city hotels charge by the night: Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and Fairmont Chateau Whistler 50 dollars per room per night, Fairmont Palliser in Calgary 40 dollars, Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth in Montreal 50 dollars per pet per day, Fairmont Hotel Macdonald in Edmonton 35 dollars per pet per day, and Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello 55 dollars per room per night. Some cap it: Fairmont Hotel Vancouver charges 50 dollars per night up to a maximum of 100 dollars, and Fairmont Banff Springs also charges 50 dollars per day up to 100.
For a weekend, either model costs about the same. For a week at Jasper Park Lodge, a nightly fee adds up to 350 dollars, while a capped hotel like Fairmont Hotel Vancouver stays at 100.
Fairmonts where pets stay free
Two famous Fairmonts charge no pet fee at all. The Plaza in New York accepts dogs of all sizes at no additional cost, up to two per room, though other animals are not permitted and you sign a release accepting responsibility for damage. Fairmont Empress in Victoria says pets stay free, asks you to sign a Pet Waiver Form at check-in, and offers a bed basket, food and water dishes, dry food, bottled water, treats, waste bags and litter boxes on request. That makes the Empress one of the few luxury hotels that thinks about cats as well as dogs.
The Canine Ambassadors
Several Fairmont hotels keep a resident dog, called a Canine Ambassador, who greets guests in the lobby and can often be booked for a walk. Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston is known for its program, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver has resident Canine Ambassadors, and Fairmont Washington DC has Georgie, who the hotel says spends her days meeting and greeting guests. Fairmont La Marina in Rabat, Morocco, has one too. For travellers who had to leave their own dog at home, an hour with the hotel dog is a popular perk.
Room and area restrictions
Some Fairmonts limit where pets can go. Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is pet friendly, but pets are not allowed on the 6th floor of the main building or the 5th floor of the Mount Temple Wing, and a 75 dollar fee is charged if a pet has to be removed because of noise. Fairmont Waterfront in Vancouver keeps pets off the 3rd floor, the pool deck, the restaurant, its rooftop garden and the Fairmont Terrace rooms that open onto it. Fairmont Grand Del Mar in San Diego places dogs in first floor rooms, up to two per room. Almost every Fairmont keeps pets out of restaurants, spas, pools and fitness rooms. At Copley Plaza, Boston's health code allows only service animals in the OAK Long Bar and Kitchen dining room, though dogs are welcome on its seasonal patio.
Fairmont in Hawaii
Hawaii's two Fairmonts add a layer most hotels do not. Fairmont Kea Lani on Maui welcomes dogs of 20 pounds or less from within the state for USD 40 a day, with part of the fee going to the local Humane Society, and says out-of-state dogs are welcome as long as Hawaii's quarantine rules have been met. Fairmont Orchid on the Big Island charges USD 75 plus tax per pet per night and also points to the state's pet quarantine. Bringing a dog to Hawaii takes months of planning, and our Hawaii pet transport guide explains the rules.
Fairmont on the West Coast
West Coast Fairmonts lean into pet amenities. Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver welcomes cats and dogs with a package of pet bedding, treats and a walking map, and its concierge can arrange pet sitting. Fairmont Vancouver Airport takes pets of all sizes, up to two per room, for 50 dollars a night, and offers pet meals through in-room dining. In California, Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica offers pet beds, bowls, treats and a pet in-room dining menu, Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles says pets are always welcome, and Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn charges USD 150 per stay and asks you to call its Royal Service team to arrange the visit. Fairmont Grand Del Mar in San Diego takes up to two dogs in first floor rooms.
Fairmont outside North America
The same hotel by hotel approach applies abroad. Fairmont El San Juan in Puerto Rico accepts house-trained dogs only, for a one-time fee of USD 150 per room. Fairmont Mayakoba on Mexico's Riviera Maya accepts dogs and cats up to 25 pounds for USD 25 plus tax per pet per night and asks you to be present during housekeeping. The Hamilton Princess in Bermuda accepts pets under 25 pounds with a USD 250 fee. Fairmont Tazi Palace in Tangier accepts dogs up to 10 kilograms with a daily cleaning fee. Some Fairmonts, including Fairmont Ramla in Riyadh, do not accept pets at all.
Fairmont in the Canadian Rockies
The Rockies hotels are a natural fit for dog owners, with trails on the doorstep. Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge says pets are always welcome, for 50 dollars per room per night however many pets you bring, which includes water bowls, dog beds and a deep clean after you leave. Fairmont Banff Springs welcomes pets for 50 dollars per day up to a maximum of 100. Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is pet friendly with the floor restrictions above. Fairmont Chateau Whistler welcomes dogs for 50 dollars per room per night. If you are driving in from the US, our guide to pet transport to Canada covers the border rules.
Rules you can expect
- Pets must be leashed in public areas.
- Pets must not be left unattended in the room. Several hotels can arrange pet sitting through the concierge, including Fairmont Pacific Rim and Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth.
- You are responsible for any damage, and many hotels ask you to sign a pet waiver or disclaimer.
- Pets stay out of food and drink areas, spas, pools and fitness rooms.
- Noise complaints can lead to removal, and some hotels charge a removal fee.
Service animals at Fairmont
Fairmont pages say service animals are always welcome and are exempt from pet fees and restrictions. That matches the ADA service animal rules in the US, which bar hotels from charging a pet fee for a trained service dog. Emotional support animals are treated as pets, and Copley Plaza notes they are not allowed in its restaurant under Boston's health code. Our service dog hotel rights guide covers the law.
Fairmont compared with Four Seasons and Omni
Fairmont is the luxury brand most likely to take a large dog. Four Seasons hotels often charge no pet fee but many cap pets at 25 pounds. Omni city hotels usually allow one pet up to 25 pounds for a cleaning fee of USD 125 to USD 175. A Fairmont with no weight limit and a one-time fee, such as Copley Plaza or Fairmont Dallas, is often the best value for a big dog.
How to check a Fairmont pet policy
- Open your hotel on fairmont.com and go to its guest services page.
- Find the Pet Policy section for size, number and fee.
- Check whether the fee is per pet or per room, and per stay or per night.
- Check for floor or wing restrictions.
- Call to confirm and to ask about bowls, beds or a Canine Ambassador walk.

A sample trip
Say you are taking a 70 pound retriever on a week long trip through Boston and Toronto. At Fairmont Copley Plaza the dog is welcome whatever its size, for a single USD 50 fee. In Toronto, Fairmont Royal York accepts up to two small pets, so a 70 pound dog may not qualify, and you should call before booking. The same brand, the same dog, a different answer, which is why the guest services page for each hotel matters more than the Fairmont name.
Before you book
Fairmont is a strong choice for travelling with a dog, especially a big one, but each hotel prices it differently. Read the guest services page for your hotel and work out the total for your stay before you commit.
