Hyatt does not publish a single pet policy for all its hotels. Each hotel sets its own rules and posts them on its policies page, but most of the Hyatt hotels we checked follow the same pattern: dogs are welcome, up to two per room, each dog 50 pounds or less with a combined limit of 75 pounds, for a fee of about USD 100 per stay for up to six nights, plus a deep-cleaning fee on longer stays. There are real exceptions, though: one hotel we checked charges USD 60 per pet, a luxury property charges USD 200 per stay, and another limits each pet to 20 pounds. Service animals are not pets and do not pay pet fees.
This guide is based on the pet policies published on individual Hyatt hotels' own pages on hyatt.com, read in October 2026. Because each hotel sets its own terms, always check the policies page for the exact hotel you are booking, or call it, before you travel.
Hyatt pet policies we checked
The table shows what six Hyatt hotels across different brands publish on their own policy pages.
| Hotel | Fee | Weight limit |
|---|---|---|
| Hyatt Place Bakersfield | USD 100 (1 to 6 nights); USD 100 plus USD 100 deep clean (7 to 30 nights) | 50 lb per dog, 75 lb for two |
| Hyatt Regency Rochester | USD 60 per pet, any length of stay | 50 lb per dog, 75 lb for two |
| Hyatt House Indianapolis / Downtown | USD 100 per stay (1 to 6 nights); USD 200 (7 to 30 nights) | 50 lb per dog, 75 lb for two |
| Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center | USD 100 per stay (up to 6 nights); plus USD 100 deep clean (7 to 30 nights) | Dogs only; book 3 days ahead |
| Park Hyatt New York | USD 200 per stay (up to 5 nights); plus USD 200 deep clean (6 to 30 nights) | 50 lb |
| Hyatt Centric Wall Street New York | USD 100 per stay (up to 6 nights); plus deep clean (7 to 30 nights) | 20 lb per pet, max 2 pets |
The common Hyatt pattern
Looking across those hotels, the standard terms most Hyatt properties use are:
- Dogs, and at many hotels only dogs, are accepted.
- Up to two dogs per room.
- Each dog weighs 50 pounds or less, and two dogs together weigh no more than 75 pounds.
- A fee of about USD 100 per stay for stays of up to six nights, whether you stay one night or six.
- For stays of 7 to 30 nights, an extra deep-cleaning fee, usually another USD 100, or a higher flat fee.
- For stays over 30 nights, the fee is at the hotel's discretion.
Hyatt Place Bakersfield puts it plainly: its policy allows up to two housebroken dogs, 50 pounds and under each and 75 pounds combined, for USD 100 for stays of one to six nights, with a USD 100 deep-cleaning fee added for 7 to 30 nights. Dogs over the limits are at the hotel's discretion.
Where Hyatt hotels differ
The exceptions are where travelers get caught out. Hyatt Regency Rochester charges a flat USD 60 per pet, regardless of how long you stay, in designated dog-friendly rooms, which makes a long stay much cheaper than at most Hyatts. Park Hyatt New York, a luxury hotel, charges USD 200 per stay for up to five nights and another USD 200 for stays of six to 30 nights. Hyatt Centric Wall Street in New York limits each pet to 20 pounds, with a maximum of two, and requires a signed damage disclaimer.
Some hotels add house rules. Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center accepts dogs only, asks for the reservation at least three days before arrival, keeps dogs out of restaurants and the pool area, asks owners to use a designated dog-walk area, wants dogs back in the room by 9:30 p.m., and gives you a "Dog on Vacation" door hanger to display. Hyatt House Indianapolis asks you to keep pets on a leash in public spaces and out of dining areas. Other hotels may not accept pets at all, so a Hyatt brand name is not a guarantee.
Do Hyatt hotels accept cats?
Many Hyatt policies are written for dogs, and some say only dogs are allowed in guest rooms. Hyatt Place Bakersfield, for example, invites you to bring up to two dogs, and Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center accepts dogs only. Hyatt Centric Wall Street refers to pets more generally. If you are travelling with a cat, call the hotel before booking and ask specifically whether cats are accepted and on what terms, and get the answer in writing if you can.
How to check a specific Hyatt's pet policy
Each Hyatt hotel has a policies page on hyatt.com, usually found from the hotel's main page, with the pet policy listed alongside the smoking and other policies. That page is the best source for fees and limits. Before booking:
- Open the hotel's page on hyatt.com and find its policies section.
- Read the pet policy for the fee, the weight limit, how many pets are allowed and whether cats are included.
- Check for house rules, such as advance notice, designated rooms or curfews.
- If anything is unclear, or your dog is over the limit, call the hotel and ask; many policies say dogs over the limit are at the hotel's discretion.
- Mention the pet when you book, since some hotels have limited pet-friendly rooms.
What the fee covers
The Hyatt fee is generally a per-stay charge rather than a nightly one for stays up to six nights, which makes it better value the longer you stay within that window: one night or six nights costs the same at most properties. For longer stays, the deep-cleaning fee is added because the room needs more work after a pet has lived in it for a week or more. Hyatt House Indianapolis shows the alternative structure, with a single higher fee of USD 200 for 7 to 30 nights. Some hotels state that dogs must be housebroken and that they can refuse animals that do not meet normal standards for household pets, based on species, smell or aggression.
Service animals at Hyatt
Service animals are not pets. Park Hyatt New York, for example, states that guests with disabilities travelling with service animals are welcome and that service animals are not subject to the pet policy. Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center notes that pet cleaning fees do not apply to service animals. Under US law, a hotel can ask only limited questions about a service animal; the US Department of Justice's service animal guidance explains the rules. Our guide to service dog rights in hotels covers them in detail.
Hyatt for a move with a dog
If you are relocating with a dog and need a hotel for a week or more, the fee structure matters. At a typical Hyatt, a seven-night stay costs USD 100 plus a USD 100 deep-cleaning fee, or USD 200 total, compared with a single USD 100 for six nights. At a hotel that charges per night, the same week could cost much more. Hyatt House properties, which have apartment-style suites, can be useful for longer stays with a dog; check the specific hotel's terms. For a cross-country drive with several hotel stops, our guide to road trips with a dog covers planning, and our list of hotels with no pet fee compares chains that do not charge at all.
Large dogs and Hyatt
The 50-pound limit is the biggest obstacle for owners of large breeds. Many Hyatt policies say dogs over the limit are at the hotel's discretion, so it is worth calling and explaining your situation, but do not assume a yes. If your dog is well over 50 pounds, compare other chains or a pet-friendly rental. Our guide to finding pet-friendly hotels explains how to search, and our guide to the Airbnb pet policy covers rentals.
Tips for a smooth Hyatt stay with a dog
- Bring your dog's bed, bowls and a familiar blanket to help it settle.
- Ask the hotel about its rules on leaving a dog alone in the room, and do not leave a dog that barks or gets anxious when left.
- Use the designated dog-walk area if the hotel has one, and pick up after your dog.
- Keep the dog on a leash in public areas and out of restaurants and pools unless the hotel says otherwise.
- Hang the "pet in room" sign if the hotel provides one, so housekeeping knows.
Comparing the cost of short and long stays
Because most Hyatt fees are per stay, the length of your trip changes the value a lot. Using the published terms:
- A 2-night weekend at Hyatt Place Bakersfield: USD 100.
- A 6-night stay at the same hotel: still USD 100.
- An 8-night stay: USD 100 plus a USD 100 deep-cleaning fee, so USD 200.
- An 8-night stay at Hyatt Regency Rochester: USD 60 per pet, so USD 60 for one dog or USD 120 for two.
- A 4-night stay at Park Hyatt New York: USD 200.
If you are flexible, a six-night stay is the sweet spot at most Hyatts, and a hotel with a flat per-pet fee like Rochester's is the best value for longer stays. Note that Rochester charges per pet, while Bakersfield's fee covers the stay; read the wording carefully when you have two dogs.
Questions to ask the hotel before you book
Because each Hyatt sets its own rules, a quick call can save trouble at check-in. Useful questions:
- Do you accept cats, or only dogs?
- Is the fee per stay or per pet, and when does the deep-cleaning fee apply?
- What is the weight limit, and will you consider a dog over it?
- Do you have designated pet-friendly rooms or floors, and are any available on my dates?
- Do you need advance notice of the pet?
- Can the dog be left in the room while I am out, and are there rules about crates?
- Is there a dog-walk area or nearby green space?
Ask the hotel to note the answers on your reservation, so the front desk sees them when you arrive.
What to pack for a hotel stay with a dog
Hotel rooms are unfamiliar, and a few home comforts help a dog settle. Pack its bed or a blanket that smells of home, food and water bowls, enough food for the stay plus a spare day, poop bags, a leash and collar with ID tags showing your mobile number, any medications, and a copy of its vaccination records in case the hotel asks. A crate is useful if your dog is crate-trained and you need to leave it briefly. Bring an old sheet or towel to cover the bedding if your dog likes to get on furniture, to reduce the risk of cleaning charges.
A sample stay: Indianapolis for 10 nights with two dogs
Say you are moving to Indianapolis with two dogs weighing 30 and 40 pounds, a combined 70 pounds. At Hyatt House Indianapolis, both dogs fit the 50-pound individual and 75-pound combined limits. A 10-night stay falls in the 7 to 30 night band, so the fee is USD 200 for the stay. Keep both dogs leashed in public spaces and out of the dining area, and mention them when you book.
Stays longer than 30 nights
Every Hyatt policy we read leaves stays of more than 30 nights to the hotel's discretion. If you are relocating and need a month or more in a hotel with your dog while you look for housing, contact the hotel directly before booking and agree the pet fee in writing. Hyatt House hotels, with their apartment-style suites and kitchens, are often the most practical choice for a long stay, but the pet terms still vary by property. Ask whether the hotel will cap the fee for a long stay, and whether it needs a deposit or a signed damage form like the one Hyatt Centric Wall Street uses.
Common mistakes with Hyatt pet stays
- Assuming every Hyatt has the same policy; each hotel sets its own.
- Booking a dog over 50 pounds without calling first.
- Bringing a cat to a hotel whose policy covers dogs only.
- Forgetting the deep-cleaning fee on a stay of seven nights or more.
- Booking at a hotel with an advance-notice rule at the last minute.
