La Quinta is one of the few hotel brands with a single published pet policy. Most La Quinta hotels accept up to two domestic pets, such as cats and dogs, per room. The pet fee is optional at each hotel, but where it is charged it is USD 25 per night with a maximum of USD 75 per room per stay. Some hotels set their own weight limit, and La Quinta names a list of hotels, mostly in Mexico and Latin America plus a handful in the US, that do not allow pets at all. Service animals never pay the fee.
This guide is based on La Quinta's own pet policy details page on wyndhamhotels.com and the pet policy boxes on individual La Quinta hotel pages, read in October 2026. La Quinta says select locations have extra restrictions, so check with the hotel you are booking before you travel.

The La Quinta pet fee, explained
La Quinta's pet policy details page says an optional pet fee may be charged at check-in, at USD 25 per night for a maximum of USD 75 per room per stay. Three things matter here.
- It is optional. Each hotel decides whether to charge it, so some La Quinta hotels may charge nothing.
- It is per room, not per pet. The cap is USD 75 per room per stay, and the hotel pages we read say the nightly fee covers up to two pets.
- It is capped. After three nights, you pay nothing more, however long you stay.
The hotel pages we checked matched the chain policy. La Quinta Colorado Springs South Airport and La Quinta Inn Santa Fe both list a non-refundable USD 25 nightly fee for up to two pets, with a maximum of USD 75 per stay. If there is damage or the room needs excessive cleaning, the hotel can charge for that separately.
Why the cap makes La Quinta good for long stays
Most budget chains charge pet fees every night. At La Quinta, the cap changes the maths on anything longer than three nights:
- 1 night: USD 25.
- 3 nights: USD 75.
- 7 nights: still USD 75.
- 14 nights: still USD 75.
By comparison, a Wyndham budget hotel charging USD 25 per pet per night would cost USD 350 for two dogs for a week. That makes La Quinta one of the cheapest chain options for a relocation or a temporary stay between homes. Our Wyndham pet policy guide shows how much more the per-night brands cost.
The cap applies per room per stay, so if you split a long trip into several separate bookings at different La Quinta hotels, each stay is capped on its own. Two nights in one city and three in the next would cost USD 50 and then USD 75. For the lowest total, keep the long part of your trip in one booking at one hotel where you can.
Weight limits at La Quinta
The chain policy does not set a weight limit, but it says select locations may have one and asks you to confirm when you book. The two hotel pages we checked, in Colorado Springs and Santa Fe, both set 75 pounds per pet and accept cats and dogs only. If your dog is over 75 pounds, call the specific hotel, because some La Quinta hotels may set a lower limit and others may not set one at all.
La Quinta hotels that do not allow pets
La Quinta publishes a list of hotels where pets are not allowed. Most are in Mexico and Latin America, including hotels in Aguascalientes, Cancun, Ciudad Juarez, Leon, Medellin, Monterrey, Poza Rica, Puebla, San Luis Potosi, Santiago and Tegucigalpa. The US hotels on the list are:
- La Quinta Brooklyn Downtown and La Quinta Brooklyn East
- La Quinta New York City Central Park and La Quinta Inn Queens
- La Quinta White Plains - Elmsford
- La Quinta Cincinnati Airport Florence
- La Quinta Dallas - Richardson, La Quinta Dallas Downtown and La Quinta Plano Legacy Frisco
- La Quinta San Antonio Medical Center NW
- La Quinta Inglewood and La Quinta Inn and Suites Santa Cruz
Lists like this change, so if you are heading to New York, Dallas or Southern California, check the hotel page before you book.
House rules at La Quinta
La Quinta's policy sets out the rules it expects pet owners to follow:
- Tell the front desk at check-in that you have a pet, and leave a contact number.
- Keep pets on a leash or in a carrier outside your room.
- Keep pets out of the breakfast area, fitness center and pool.
- Arrange housekeeping for a time when you and your pet are out, since staff cannot clean with a pet in the room.
- Clean up after your pet, and bring a litter box for a cat.
- Prevent excessive noise, disruptive or aggressive behavior.
If a pet is deemed dangerous, harmful or disruptive, La Quinta says management can require you to find other accommodation.
Cats at La Quinta
Cats are welcome under the policy, which names cats and dogs as the domestic pets it accepts. You will need to bring your own litter box, and the two pet limit includes cats. If you have an unusual pet, such as a rabbit or a bird, the policy asks you to call the hotel to confirm whether it qualifies. Cats can be harder to find if they slip out of a room during housekeeping, which is one more reason to schedule cleaning for a time when you and your cat are out, or to keep the cat in its carrier while staff are in the room.
How to book a La Quinta stay with a pet
- Check the hotel is not on La Quinta's no-pets list.
- Look at the Pet and Service Animal Policy box on the hotel's page for any weight limit.
- Call the hotel to confirm the fee, since it is optional, and mention your pet.
- At check-in, tell the front desk and leave your phone number.
- Agree a housekeeping time when you will be out with your pet.
Our guide on how to find pet-friendly hotels covers these checks for other chains.
What happens at check-in
La Quinta asks you to tell the front desk when you check in that a pet will be in your room, and to leave your current contact number. That number matters: if your pet barks or causes a problem while you are out, the hotel will use it to reach you. If the hotel charges the fee, it is taken at check-in and is non-refundable, even if you check out early. A hotel may also ask about your pet's weight and type, so be honest. A pet that turns out to be over a hotel's limit can be refused, and the room may already be paid for.
La Quinta versus other Wyndham brands
La Quinta is part of Wyndham, but it does not share the rules of its sister brands. Days Inn, Super 8, Travelodge, Microtel and the other Wyndham brands let each hotel set its own policy, and in our sample nearly half of them took no pets at all, while the rest charged per pet, per night, often with a separate sanitation fee. La Quinta's single policy, its per-room cap and its published no-pets list make it far easier to plan around. If you are choosing between a La Quinta and another Wyndham hotel at the same exit, the La Quinta is usually the safer and cheaper bet with a pet, especially for more than one night.
If a hotel turns your pet away
Problems at check-in usually come from one of three things: the hotel is on the no-pets list, your pet is over that hotel's weight limit, or the hotel has run out of pet-friendly rooms. Ask the front desk which applies. If it is a weight or room issue, ask whether a nearby La Quinta could take you instead. To avoid the problem altogether, call the hotel the day before you arrive to confirm your pet is noted on the reservation, particularly on busy holiday weekends.
Service animals at La Quinta
La Quinta's policy says authorized service animals are not subject to a pet fee, and service animals may go into areas where pets are not allowed, such as the breakfast area. Under the ADA service animal rules, hotel staff may only ask whether the dog is required because of a disability and what task it is trained to perform, and service dogs must be admitted even at hotels that do not take pets. Emotional support animals are not service animals under the ADA, so they are treated as pets and the normal fee applies. Our guide to service dog hotel rights has the detail.
La Quinta for a move with a pet
Because of the USD 75 cap, La Quinta works well for a move: a week or two near your new home while you wait for keys costs the same in pet fees as three nights. La Quinta hotels are also common along interstates, which helps on a long drive. Our guides to a road trip with a dog and moving to another state with a dog cover the bigger plan.
How La Quinta compares with other chains
La Quinta sits between the free chains and the per-night chains. Kimpton, Motel 6 and some other brands charge nothing, as covered in our hotels with no pet fee guide. Most Wyndham, Choice and many independent budget hotels charge every night per pet. A USD 25 nightly fee capped at USD 75 per room is one of the better deals for two pets or a stay of more than three nights.
Tips for a smooth La Quinta stay
- Bring a crate if your pet will ever be alone in the room, and ask the hotel whether that is allowed.
- Pack your pet's bed and a blanket for the hotel bed to avoid extra cleaning charges.
- Walk your dog before housekeeping comes so the room can be cleaned while you are out.
- Keep your phone on in case the front desk calls about noise.
- Carry vaccination records, and follow the ASPCA's travel safety tips: a microchip and a collar tag with your cell number, plus a temporary tag with your hotel details.
Common mistakes with La Quinta pet stays
- Assuming every La Quinta takes pets. Some US hotels, especially in New York and Dallas, do not.
- Bringing three pets. The limit is two per room.
- Not confirming the weight limit for a large dog.
- Leaving a pet alone and noisy, which can lead to being asked to leave.
- Forgetting a litter box for a cat.
A sample stay: ten nights with two dogs
Say you are moving with two 60 pound dogs and need ten nights near your new job. At a La Quinta that charges the fee and has a 75 pound limit, both dogs fit, and the total pet fee is USD 75 for the whole stay, because the nightly fee covers up to two pets and the cap applies after three nights. At a per-night hotel charging USD 25 per pet per night, the same stay would cost USD 500. Confirm the fee and weight limit with the hotel before you book, since both can vary.
Before you book
La Quinta's policy is clear and generous: two cats or dogs, an optional USD 25 nightly fee capped at USD 75 per room, and service animals free. Check the no-pets list, confirm any weight limit with the hotel, and tell the front desk about your pet at check-in.
