Legoland does not allow pets at any of its three US resorts. Pets are not permitted in the theme parks in Winter Haven, Florida, Carlsbad, California or Goshen, New York, and none of the Legoland hotels accept them either. There is no kennel at any of the three. The only animals allowed on property are trained service animals, and even they cannot go on the rides.
That makes Legoland stricter than many family parks. SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and a few Six Flags parks at least run a day kennel at the gate. At Legoland, if your dog comes on the trip, you need a plan for it somewhere else: a local boarding kennel or day care, a pet sitter, or a pet-friendly hotel off site with someone staying behind.
This guide is built from the help center answers each resort publishes, read in October 2026: the Legoland Florida animal policy, the Legoland Florida hotel pet answer, the Legoland California park answer, the Legoland California hotel answer and the Legoland New York pet answer.

Are dogs allowed at Legoland?
Not as pets. Legoland Florida says pets are not allowed inside the theme park, but service animals are permitted. Legoland California answers "No, pets are not allowed inside LEGOLAND California Park." Legoland New York says pets are not permitted within the park grounds except for trained service animals. The wording differs, but the rule is the same at all three.
The ban covers the whole resort, not just the ride areas. That includes the water parks, the hotels and the shared areas around them. There is no on-site pet hotel, no partner kennel at the gate and no option to leave a dog in a parked car, which would be dangerous anyway in Florida and Southern California.
Legoland Florida pet policy
Legoland Florida in Winter Haven is about 45 minutes southwest of the Orlando theme parks, and many families visit it as part of a bigger Florida trip. Its help center says pets are not permitted in any of the resort's hotels, and it names all three: Legoland Hotel, Pirate Island Hotel and Legoland Beach Retreat. Some third-party booking sites have tagged the Beach Retreat as pet friendly. The resort's own answer says otherwise, so do not book it expecting to bring a dog.
Service animals are welcome. The resort defines a service animal as a dog or miniature horse that is individually trained to perform tasks for a person with a disability. Service animals can go in most areas, including through the standard ride queues up to the boarding area, but they cannot ride. Team members are not permitted to handle or supervise service animals, so another adult in your group needs to hold the animal while the handler rides.
If you are combining Legoland with Orlando parks, compare the rules. Disney World has a few dog-friendly resorts and Universal has four pet-friendly hotels, while SeaWorld Orlando runs a kennel at its gate. Our Disney World pet policy and SeaWorld pet policy guides have the details.
Legoland California pet policy
Legoland California in Carlsbad, north of San Diego, has the clearest answers of the three. The park help center says pets are not allowed inside the park, and that if you need a place for your pet, there are several local kennels and pet care facilities nearby. That is the closest any Legoland gets to pointing you to boarding, and it is a referral, not a service the resort runs.
The two resort hotels, the Legoland California Hotel and the Castle Hotel, do not allow pets. A separate help article says emotional support animals are not allowed within the hotels either. Trained service animals are welcome in the hotels in line with California law, can use open outdoor areas for relief as long as the owner picks up, and must stay under the owner's control. Staff will not take control of a service animal.
Inside the park, service animals can go through the standard attraction queue up to the loading point, but cannot ride. The rules are the same as in Florida.
Legoland New York pet policy
Legoland New York in Goshen, in the Hudson Valley, follows the same pattern. Pets are not permitted in the park except for trained service animals, and pets are not allowed at the Legoland New York Hotel. The resort also says it does not allow emotional support animals in the hotel, while trained service animals are welcome.
Its service animal rules are a little more detailed. Service animals can go to most locations in the park and hotel, must be on a leash at all times, and must stay under the handler's control, including control of excessive barking. Staff, whom Legoland New York calls Model Citizens, cannot handle or watch service animals, and the animals cannot go on rides. Handlers must pick up after them in the designated animal relief areas.
Emotional support animals at Legoland
Emotional support animals are not service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act, because they provide comfort rather than a trained task. Theme parks and hotels can treat them as pets, and Legoland does. California and New York say outright that ESAs are not allowed in their hotels, and Florida limits its hotels to service animals. If your dog is an ESA, plan for it to stay off site. Our guide on service dogs vs emotional support animals explains the legal difference.
Service animals and rides at Legoland
All three resorts follow the same practical rules for service animals:
- The animal must be a dog or, in Florida, a miniature horse, trained to do work or tasks for a person with a disability.
- It must be on a leash or harness and under control at all times, unless the device would get in the way of its work.
- It can wait in the ride queue up to the loading point, but cannot board any ride.
- Staff cannot hold or supervise it, so plan for a companion to wait with the animal while you ride.
- You must clean up after it, using the relief areas where the park has them.
Staff can ask only two questions: whether the animal is required because of a disability, and what task it has been trained to do. Our service dog public access rights guide covers what else to expect at the gate.
Where to leave your dog on a Legoland day
With no kennel on site, you have three realistic options.
Day care or boarding near the park. All three resorts are in areas with plenty of dog day cares and boarding kennels, and Legoland California's own help center suggests local kennels. Book a few days ahead in school holidays, and have vaccination records ready. Most facilities ask for rabies, distemper and Bordetella vaccines and may want a short temperament check. Our guide to choosing a dog boarding facility lists the questions worth asking.
A pet sitter at your hotel or rental. If you stay at a pet-friendly hotel off site, a sitter can visit or stay with your dog while you are at the park. This works well for older and anxious dogs that do not like new places.
Leave the dog at home. For a short trip, a trusted sitter at home is often the least stressful choice for the dog.
Choosing a day care that fits park hours
Theme park days are long, and that is where many day care bookings go wrong. Before you book, check these points:
- Drop-off and pick-up times. Many day cares open at 7 a.m. and close at 6 or 7 p.m. If the park is open late, you may need to leave early or book overnight boarding instead.
- Distance from the park. A facility 10 to 20 minutes away keeps the morning calm and lets you collect your dog without rushing out of the park.
- Evaluation days. Some day cares want a trial visit before the first full day. Ask whether they do same-day evaluations for travelers, or whether boarding avoids that step.
- Vaccine paperwork. Ask what they need and whether a photo of your vet record is enough. Bordetella often has to be given at least a few days before the stay.
- Holiday demand. Spring break, summer and the winter holidays fill up fast near all three resorts. Book as soon as you have park dates.
- Updates. Ask whether staff send a photo or a message during the day. It makes leaving your dog much easier.
Splitting the day with a dog
Some families travel with a dog and simply split up. One adult takes the children into the park in the morning while the other walks the dog and rests at the hotel, then they swap after lunch. It costs nothing extra and suits dogs that hate being away from their people. The downside is that the whole group never rides together, and at Legoland, where most rides are aimed at younger children, that can mean a lot of waiting for whoever is at the hotel.
If you split the day, choose a hotel close to the park so the swap is quick, and pick one that lets you leave your dog crated in the room for short periods. Ask the front desk about this when you book, because rules vary by property.
Visiting with a puppy or senior dog
Puppies that have not finished their vaccine series are usually not accepted at day care or boarding, and they are the most at risk from illnesses passed between dogs. Older dogs, on the other hand, may find a new kennel stressful and tiring. For both, an in-room sitter or a trusted sitter at home is often the kindest option on park day.
Pet-friendly hotels near Legoland
Because the Legoland hotels do not take pets, families traveling with a dog usually stay off site. Winter Haven, Carlsbad and the Goshen and Middletown area all have chain hotels that accept dogs, often for a nightly or per-stay fee. Check the weight limit and whether you may leave your dog alone in the room, since many hotels require a crate or ban unattended pets. Our guide to hotels with no pet fee can help you narrow the list, and it is worth calling the hotel directly to confirm the rules for your dates.
Never leave a dog in the car at the park
Legoland parking lots in Florida and California are open and sunny, and a closed car heats up quickly even on a mild day. Florida, California and New York all have laws that protect animals left in hot vehicles, and in Florida a person can break into a car to rescue a domestic animal in danger if they follow the steps the law sets out. Beyond the legal risk, it is simply unsafe. Our guide on how hot is too hot for a dog in a car explains how fast it happens.
Checklist before your Legoland trip
- Book your dog's day care, boarding or sitter before you book park tickets.
- Get vaccination records from your vet, including rabies and Bordetella.
- Choose an off-site hotel that takes dogs and check its unattended pet rule.
- If you have a service animal, bring a second adult so someone can hold the animal while you ride.
- Save the boarding facility's phone number in case your plans change.
