Margaritaville Pet Policy: Pet Fees and Weight Limits at Every Resort (2026)

Margaritaville Pet Policy

Margaritaville does not have one pet policy. Each resort and hotel under the Margaritaville name sets its own rules, and they vary a lot. Some properties, such as Gatlinburg and the Island Reserve resorts in Mexico, take no pets at all. Others welcome dogs with weight limits from 30 to 75 pounds and fees from nothing up to USD 75 a night. Almost all of them accept dogs only, cap pets at two per room, and keep dogs out of pools and restaurants.

We read the pet policy or FAQ page of every Margaritaville property that publishes one on margaritavilleresorts.com in October 2026, and the table below lists what each one says. Fees change and some pages are vague, so confirm with the property when you book, and always add your dog to the reservation.

The most dog-friendly Margaritaville hotels

If you want the easiest stay with a bigger dog, two hotels stand out. Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter takes dogs under 75 pounds and, according to its pet-friendly page, lets pets stay free when you book directly with the hotel, a policy it has run since April 2025. The listed fee otherwise is USD 125 plus tax per stay. Fort Myers Beach also takes dogs under 75 pounds and charges a single cleaning fee rather than a nightly rate.

For RV travelers, the Camp Margaritaville RV resorts are the friendliest of all. Lake Lanier allows two pets, dogs or cats, on an RV site with no fee, and Auburndale allows up to three pets on RV sites with no size limit, charging only for the third pet.

The strictest Margaritaville properties

Lake Tahoe has the lowest weight limit we found: dogs up to 30 pounds only, and it is also the most expensive at USD 75 per dog per day plus a USD 75 refundable deposit each day. Its pet policy page also says dogs cannot be left alone in the room at any time and are banned from the pool, water features and restaurants.

The Nashville and Kansas City hotels accept only small dogs or small pets, without giving an exact weight, so call ahead if your dog is near the middle of the size range. Margaritaville Resort Gatlinburg does not accept pets at all, and neither do the Island Reserve all-inclusive resorts in Riviera Cancun and Riviera Maya, apart from service animals.

Florida Margaritaville properties

Florida has the most Margaritaville locations, and the rules differ across the state. Margaritaville Resort Orlando, the big vacation home resort near Kissimmee, is pet friendly and charges USD 75 plus tax per night, with a maximum charge of USD 300 for the stay. That cap makes longer stays much cheaper per night.

Margaritaville Beach House Key West welcomes well-mannered dogs at USD 75 per dog per night, with a maximum of two. Its dog-friendly page says pets must not be left alone, and they cannot go to the pool, the fitness center or on the hotel shuttle. Waste bins are spread around the property.

At Fort Myers Beach, you have to call the front desk at least three days before you arrive so the hotel can set up the pet program, according to its pet policy page. Dogs can join you on the patio at License to Chill Bar and Grill and Lah De Dah Beach Bar, but not inside the Fins Up! Beach Club, the fitness center or JWB Grill.

Tennessee: Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Nashville

Tennessee shows how much the rules can change within a few miles. In Pigeon Forge, the Margaritaville Island Hotel allows up to two dogs at USD 50 per dog per night plus tax, and does not accept cats or other pets. The Lodge at Camp Margaritaville nearby allows dogs up to 50 pounds and charges per stay instead: USD 100 for one dog or USD 125 for two. For a stay of three nights or more with one dog, the Lodge works out cheaper.

Just up the road, Margaritaville Resort Gatlinburg does not accept pets. If you are heading to Dollywood, note that you cannot board a dog overnight at Dollywood's Doggywood kennel, so a pet-friendly room is essential. Our Dollywood pet policy guide covers Doggywood's day kennel rules and prices.

Margaritaville Hotel Nashville takes small dogs and charges USD 100 per dog for stays of one or two nights. Like Kansas City, it says that after two noise complaints you will need to make other arrangements for your dog.

Texas: Lake Conroe and South Padre Island

At Margaritaville Lake Resort Lake Conroe, dogs stay only in designated dog-friendly lake cottages and tower suites. Its dog-friendly FAQ sets a 50 pound limit, two dogs per room, and a fee of USD 150 per stay for up to two dogs. Only dogs are allowed, not cats, birds or reptiles, and dogs stay out of areas where food is prepared or served, the fitness center, the spa and the pools.

At South Padre Island, dogs can stay in standard guest rooms but not in the condos. The fee is a non-refundable USD 200 for up to two pets, plus USD 100 for each additional pet.

Cape Cod and the Bahamas

Margaritaville Resort Cape Cod accepts up to two dogs of 50 pounds or less at USD 50 per dog per night, plus Massachusetts tax. On a week-long summer stay with two dogs, that adds up fast, so check whether a per-stay fee hotel nearby is cheaper.

Margaritaville Beach Resort Nassau in the Bahamas accepts house-trained dogs up to 50 pounds, or two dogs with a combined weight of 75 pounds. Dogs cannot go into the restaurants, the health club or the pool areas. Remember that bringing a dog into the Bahamas also requires an import permit and a health certificate, which is a bigger job than the hotel booking.

Rules that apply almost everywhere

Even though fees differ, the house rules repeat across most Margaritaville pet pages:

  • Dogs only at most hotels. The Lake Lanier RV resort accepts cats, and Kansas City says small pets rather than dogs, so ask if you travel with a cat.
  • Up to two pets per room.
  • Dogs must be leashed and under control in public areas.
  • No dogs in pools, water features, restaurants or fitness centers. Service animals are the exception.
  • Do not leave your dog alone in the room. Lake Tahoe and Key West say so directly.
  • You pay for any damage, and pet fees are non-refundable once the pet has been in the room.
  • Repeated noise complaints mean you must make other arrangements.

Service animals at Margaritaville

Service animals are not pets, so the pet fee, weight limit and pet count do not apply, and they are allowed in areas where pets are not. That includes the no-pet resorts in Mexico and Gatlinburg. Emotional support animals are usually treated as pets. Our guide to service dog hotel rights explains what hotels can and cannot ask.

What a stay with a dog really costs

Nightly pet fees look small next to the room rate, but they add up over a week. Here is what the published fees come to for a seven-night stay, before tax:

  • Key West, one dog: 7 nights at USD 75, so USD 525.
  • Cape Cod, two dogs: 7 nights at USD 50 per dog, so USD 700.
  • Lake Tahoe, one small dog: 7 days at USD 75, so USD 525, plus a refundable deposit of USD 75 a day held on your card.
  • Orlando: USD 75 a night, capped at USD 300 for the stay.
  • Pigeon Forge, two dogs at The Lodge at Camp Margaritaville: USD 125 for the whole stay.
  • Lake Conroe, two dogs: USD 150 for the whole stay.
  • San Diego, booked direct: nothing.

The lesson is simple. For short breaks, nightly fees are fine. For a week or more, the properties with a per-stay fee or a cap save a lot, and in some cases the pet fee alone is more than a night's room rate at a nearby hotel.

Margaritaville vacation homes and cottages

Some Margaritaville properties are vacation home and cottage communities rather than hotels, and pet rules there can depend on the unit. At Margaritaville Beach Cottage Resort in Panama City Beach, for example, the rental terms note that unit owners may have pets on property subject to the homeowners association rules, and they set heavy cleaning fees for rule breaks. If you are renting a cottage or villa, ask whether that specific unit allows dogs before you pay, and get it in writing.

Questions to ask when you call

  • Is the fee per night, per stay, per dog or per room, and is tax added on top?
  • Is there a weight limit, and is it per dog or combined?
  • Are dogs limited to certain room types or floors?
  • Can my dog be left in the room while I am at the pool or at dinner, and if so, does it need to be crated?
  • Where is the pet relief area, and are there dog-friendly patio tables at the restaurants?
  • Is there a refundable deposit, and when is it released?

How Margaritaville compares with other chains

Because every property sets its own terms, Margaritaville works more like Omni or Hyatt than like a chain with one rule. Fees of USD 50 to USD 75 a night put the hotels at the higher end, while San Diego's free direct bookings and the no-fee RV sites put some properties among the cheapest. If you want a chain with free pets as standard, see our list of hotels with no pet fee. Loews, which runs pet-friendly hotels in several of the same cities, is another option, and our Loews pet policy guide lists its fees.

RV and camping with a dog at Camp Margaritaville

Camp Margaritaville RV resorts are aimed at road trippers, and their rules reflect that. Auburndale requires up to date vaccinations and pet registration, allows up to three pets on RV sites with no size limit, and lets one dog of 35 pounds or less stay in its designated pet-friendly cabins. Aggressive or noisy pets can be removed. Breaux Bridge allows two pets per RV site and none at tent sites. If you are new to traveling this way, our guides to traveling with a dog in an RV and the KOA pet policy cover the basics.

How to book a Margaritaville stay with a dog

  • Check the property's pet page or FAQ before you book, using the table above as a guide.
  • Book directly where it saves money. San Diego waives its pet fee for direct bookings.
  • Call to add the dog to the reservation, and ask for a ground floor room near an exit if you have a large dog.
  • Ask about room types. Lake Conroe limits dogs to certain cottages and suites, and South Padre limits them to standard rooms.
  • Bring vaccination records. Auburndale asks for them, and other properties can request them.

The bottom line on the Margaritaville pet policy

There is no single Margaritaville pet policy. Most properties take up to two dogs, with fees of USD 50 to USD 75 a night or a single per-stay charge, and weight limits from 30 to 75 pounds. San Diego is free when booked direct, the RV resorts are cheap or free, and Gatlinburg and the Mexico resorts do not take pets at all. Check the table, then confirm with the property before you go.
