Loews Hotels allows up to two pets per room at every hotel that has a pet page, and it does not publish a weight limit or a breed list. Instead of a nightly charge, each hotel takes a one-time fee per stay, and that fee ranges from USD 50 at the Arlington and St. Louis hotels to USD 150 at Coronado Bay, the Regency in New York and the four pet-friendly Universal Orlando hotels. Your pet's vaccinations need to be up to date. Pets get a welcome gift, and the hotel can provide beds, bowls, litter boxes and a pet room service menu.
This guide is built from Loews' own pages, read in October 2026: the chain's Loews Loves Pets page, the Loews Hotels FAQ, the Loews Loves Pets page for each individual hotel, and the Universal Orlando Resort hotels FAQ. Fees and rules can change, so confirm with your hotel before you travel, especially if your dog is very large.

The chain-wide Loews pet rules
Loews runs one pet program across its hotels, called Loews Loves Pets, and the chain page sets out the few rules that apply everywhere. A maximum of two pets per room is permitted, up-to-date vaccinations are required, and additional cleaning fees and property-specific policies may apply. The general FAQ repeats the two pet cap and tells guests to call or check the hotel's own page for details on fees, because rooms with pets need extra cleaning.
Several hotel pages word the cap as two pets per room and in the hotel overall, and others say two pets per room, per stay. In practice this means you cannot get around the limit by booking connecting rooms for three or four dogs without talking to the hotel first. If you travel with more than two animals, call the property before you book and get any exception in writing.
Is there a weight limit at Loews?
None of the Loews pages we read give a weight limit, and none list banned breeds. That makes Loews one of the more relaxed upscale chains for large dogs, compared with hotels that cap pets at 25 or 50 pounds. Many Hyatt hotels, for example, use a 50 pound limit per dog, as our Hyatt pet policy guide explains. The absence of a published limit is not a promise, though. Several Loews pages say that for a complete list of pet policies you should contact the hotel, and a registration form or waiver is handed over at check-in at some properties. If you are bringing a Great Dane or a Mastiff, call ahead and mention the size.
Which pets does Loews accept?
Loews describes itself as cat and dog friendly, and most hotel FAQs answer the pet question with "cats and dogs are welcome". A few FAQs simply say "pets are welcome" without naming species. The amenity lists also mention litter boxes, litter and catnip at several hotels, so cats are clearly part of the program. If you want to bring a rabbit, a bird or another small animal, ask the hotel directly, because the pages do not cover them.
What the welcome amenities include
Loews launched Loews Loves Pets in 2000 and says it was the first national hotel chain to start a pet program. The perks are more than a token treat. Depending on the hotel, pets and owners can get:
- A welcome gift with a pet tag, a bowl and a treat.
- A "Pet-in-Room" door sign so staff know an animal is inside.
- A pet room service menu prepared by the hotel kitchen.
- Beds, leashes, collars, litter boxes and scoopers on request.
- Dog-walking route maps, placemats, water bowls and pick-up bags.
- A list of local vets, groomers, pet shops and pet-friendly restaurants.
- Pet-walking and pet-sitting referrals at hotels such as the Regency and Philadelphia.
The practical value here is that you can travel lighter. A collapsible crate and food are still worth packing, but bedding and bowls are often covered.
Loews pet fees compared with other chains
A one-time fee is usually cheaper than a nightly fee on any stay longer than two nights. At USD 75 per stay, a five night trip to Kansas City or Nashville costs USD 15 a night for the dog. Compare that with chains that charge per night, such as many Holiday Inn Express hotels, where USD 20 to USD 100 per pet per night adds up quickly. At the top end, USD 150 at Coronado Bay or the Regency is in line with luxury rivals: our Four Seasons pet policy guide shows several Four Seasons hotels charge nothing at all, while some Omni hotels charge USD 125 to USD 175 per stay. If cost is your main concern, our list of hotels with no pet fee covers the chains that charge nothing.
Loews hotels at Universal Orlando
Loews operates the hotels at Universal Orlando Resort, but only four of them accept pets. The Universal FAQ says pets are permitted at Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Portofino Bay Hotel for an additional fee. Each of those four lists a one-time fee of USD 150 per stay and the same two pet limit. The value hotels, including Cabana Bay Beach Resort, Aventura and Endless Summer, are not on the list, and neither are the newer Stella Nova and Terra Luna resorts. Book one of the four named hotels if your dog is coming.
Hard Rock Hotel runs its own version of the program, called Unleashed, with a room service menu and a welcome gift set, but the fee and limits match the other three. Remember that the theme parks themselves do not admit pets, only service animals, so you will need a plan for the hours you spend in the parks. Ask the front desk for the nearest boarding kennel or a local pet sitter before you arrive. Our guide to finding a trustworthy dog sitter explains how to vet one quickly.
How to book a pet-friendly room at Loews
The Loews website does not have a pet checkbox on every booking path, so the simplest approach is to book your room and then call the hotel to add the pet to the reservation. When you call, give the number of pets, species, breed and rough weight, and ask three things: the current fee, whether a waiver is required, and whether the hotel has a preferred floor or room type for pets. Some hotels put pet guests on lower floors near an exit, which makes late night walks easier. Bring your dog's vaccination record on your phone, since vaccinations must be current under the chain rule.
Leaving your pet in the room
The Loews pages do not give a set time limit for leaving a pet alone. The "Pet-in-Room" door sign tells housekeeping an animal is inside, and in practice the room will not be serviced while a pet is loose. If you plan to go to dinner or a meeting, crate your dog or ask the hotel for a walker or sitter. A dog that barks for hours will get complaints, and some hotels reserve the right to ask you to make other arrangements. If your dog is not used to hotels, a few short trips out of the room before a long absence help it settle.
Service animals and emotional support animals
Several Loews pages state plainly that service animals are welcome. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, a trained service dog is not a pet, so the pet fee and the two pet limit do not apply to it, and staff can only ask whether the dog is required because of a disability and what task it has been trained to do. The ADA service animal guidance covers the rules in full. Emotional support animals are not service animals under the ADA, so a Loews hotel can treat an ESA as a pet and charge the normal fee. Our guide to service dog hotel rights goes through what a hotel can and cannot ask.
City hotels versus resorts
Loews has two quite different kinds of property, and the pet experience differs between them. The city hotels in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta and New Orleans are high-rise buildings, so every walk means an elevator ride and a trip through the lobby. Ask for a room on a low floor and find out which exit is closest to grass. Loews Chicago and the Regency both point guests to nearby parks, and the Philadelphia page lists local spots for dog walks. The resorts, such as Ventana Canyon in Tucson and Coronado Bay near San Diego, have more open space on site, but they bring their own issues: desert heat in Tucson and hot sand and pavement near the water in Coronado. Walk early and late in summer, carry water, and check pavement with the back of your hand before a midday walk.
What to pack for a Loews stay
Because Loews can supply beds, bowls and litter boxes, your packing list can be short. Bring food for the whole trip plus a spare day, any medication, the vaccination record, a leash and harness, waste bags and a collapsible crate. A crate is the single most useful item, since it lets you leave the room for a meal without worrying about the door or the minibar. Add a familiar blanket or toy so the room smells like home on the first night.
A worked example: four nights in Chicago with a 70 pound dog
Say you are driving to Chicago for four nights with a 70 pound Labrador. At the Loews Chicago Hotel you pay one fee of USD 100 for the whole stay, about USD 25 a night. There is no published weight limit, but call the hotel when you book, mention the dog's size, and ask about the nearest grass for walks. Pack a crate if you plan to leave the dog alone at any point, and keep the dog's vaccination record handy. If you were flying in and staying near the airport instead, Loews Chicago O'Hare charges USD 120 per stay.
Common mistakes at Loews
- Assuming every Universal Orlando hotel takes pets. Only four do.
- Booking for three dogs. The cap is two per room and many pages say two per hotel.
- Forgetting the vaccination record. Current vaccinations are a chain-wide rule.
- Expecting a nightly rate. Loews charges once per stay, so a short stay costs as much as a long one.
- Not adding the pet to the booking. Call the hotel so the room is set up before you arrive.
Tips for a smooth Loews stay
- Ask what the welcome kit includes before you pack, so you do not carry a bed you will not need.
- Use the walking route map from the front desk for your first walk.
- Check the ASPCA's travel safety tips for the drive or flight there.
- Read our guide to finding pet-friendly hotels if you are comparing Loews with other chains on the same trip.
- If you are on a longer trip, our road trip with a dog guide covers stops, water and car safety.
The bottom line on Loews
Loews is one of the friendliest upscale chains for dogs and cats: two pets per room, no published weight limit, a real amenity program and a single fee per stay of USD 50 to USD 150. Check your hotel's fee in the table, call to add the pet to your booking, and carry proof of vaccinations.
